Garden ponds and their inhabitants
It’s possible to convert new or existing pond in a convenient place of habitation of representatives of living nature, using a few simple design elements.
The materials bordering the pond, is essential to attracting animals and birds. They should be natural and provide a safe route to the pond and into it. Soft slope from the gravel or rocky mound perfectly perform these functions, so they need to do at least on one side of the pond to allow free passage of animals and birds for shallow, where they could drink and bathe. Herbal areas, padded to the edge of the water look good, but can make the water cloudy. Do not use masonry — tiles and stones become too hot, in the summer they could cross the amphibians. Do not place the pond close to your patio or home, because the water — place feeding of many insects, including mosquitoes.
To soften the border of the pond and to ensure a smooth transition to the surrounding garden, the edges of the reservoir and put a thick and lush plants. If possible, choose the natives, but make sure they are not too aggressive and will not grow around your pond. A thicket same herb can be high. Put at least one shelter of logs for the animals.
